APLA works closely with the Western Australian Department of Mines and Petroleum (DMP) to provide information to meet the requirements to prospect in WA, and it is essential that prospectors conform with the requirements.  Prospecting in Western Australia must be conducted in accordance with the Mining Act 1978 and Regulations 1981. Breach will result in serious penalties with illegal mining up to $100,000 and $10,000 per day. The DMP Investigation and Enforcement Branch (IEB) is very active.  APLA members actively support the IEB.

Basic information to improve awareness  of the Mining Act for prospecting is available
